I just watched the season 2 opener of Chuck. I gotta say, it was awesome. I didn’t feel like I needed to know what happened in season 1, I got the gist of it from the episode itself. It was funny, great pacing, great characters. I gotta say, all around, it did the best job of a season opener of a series I hadn’t yet seen in making me addicted. Also, the soundtrack for the episode was pretty good.
Now I’m off to hope that the lines for gas in atlanta are lower so that I can make it into school for class!
A few hours ago the House of Representatives said no the proposed financial bailout package. The vote tally was 205 - 228, with one Republican not voting for some reason. You can find a list of names here. Thomas.loc.gov will probably take till tomorrow to really update with the vote tally, and most other sites like GovTrack don’t have the information either. You can use that House.gov clerk link to remember the bill name for later searches.
I for one am a fan of the bailout rejection! It put me in a great mood for today! Stocks are plunging 700 to 800 points? Meh, they’ve come back from similar trends many many times. Oil prices are down too, so not all is bleak. And I wouldn’t bat an eyelash over this short term quibbling in the market. Give this thing another year and we’ll all be back on track. And now, what about the bailout?
We need a Difference Maker. I am the Difference Maker. Hahahaha ha! And really, I can make that claim if John McCain can. He “suspends” his campaign to go back to Washington to work on a compromise bill. As if he can’t just set up a conference call. Oh, wait. Maybe he can’t? And then, when he gets there, he doesn’t do anything. There is no compromise. The two parties apparently can’t share a room and the GOP is starting to split between chambers. No one likes this bill except the lame duck president and his suddenly omnipresent Treasury Secretary. The Democrats want more oversight, less corporate benefits and foreclosure forbearance. The House Republicans think $750 billion dollars is too much to give, unless it is for Iraq. McCain wants tax breaks for the failing corporations. Obama wanted a joint statement and instead got forced to share breathing room with Dubya. Meanwhile, economists are referencing 1929 and crashing stock markets and an effing Depression headed this way. Continue reading ‘THE SKY IS FALLING!!! jk… it’s just WAMU’

This morning I realized that I had nothing to offer the world. Now that it is afternoon, I realize I still have nothing to offer the world, other than to offer them that my morning was without offering.
Today has been a day of ongoing comic-related revelation.

Another week, another pull. As always, there will be some spoiling.

The news tells me that there is an new trend amongst the highly desirable 18-24 demographic—the political watch party. Of course, being a member of this age bracket, it’s no surprise to me. I’ve been doing it for years. I’ve sat there with a clutch of my cronies, watching the state of the union address like those of a less political bent watch a football game, booing and cheering and yelling at the TV. Except I doubt some scamp would not be so bold as to write “This man blows goats. I have proof.” on the screen in dry erase marker with an arrow indicating Coach (insert your favorite name here). So here are some hints on throwing a good watch party from a seasoned vet: Continue reading ‘Friday Night’s All Right–For a Debate’
Being in the ATL doesn’t immediately mean that I know much about rap, it just means that I can get more excited by Ludacris and Lil’ Jon. And, despite liking most all music except country, rap/hip hop is certainly a genre that I enjoy with more frequency. Even still, the genre is pretty hit and miss for me. I’m half and half on Kanye, not too sure about Lil’ Wayne, Akon is one of the few rappers who I think actually has a good voice.
But, The Roots have always been quality, and felt more true to the original principles of hip hop.
I think the reason I like this style is that I’m always a fan of a good beat. Since I like techno so much I kind of HAVE to like certain rap songs, especially if the beat is right. Recently, I was made aware of a fellow by the name of Ivan Ives of No Threshhold Records. His latest album is “Juice to Get Loose To“, and it’s pretty good. The three songs that I definitely can’t stop listening to: Got It, Juice Joint, and Time for Juice.
Happy listening!
I remember when Life premiered last season. I remember the commercials with star Damian Lewis being all creepy and charismatically weird. I also remember not caring at all. In any given TV pilot season there are shows I always look forward to ignoring. Life was one of those shows.
Then I started managing a video store part time and discovered that I had one single friend on Monday and Tuesday afternoons as I was cleaning DVDs that must have been used as projectile weapons over the weekend. This friend was hulu.com. Hulu and I would walk, hand in hand through the doldrums of a video store Monday afternoon. We watched a lot of Burn Notice and Battlestar Galactica. We tried Bones, but decided that if we’re going to enjoy our time together I had to stop watching things in alphabetical order.
Enter Life. When I stumbled across it, I remembered how the original ads for this show were very vague. Maybe I’m not that sharp, but I thought they were nearly incomprehensible. Hence, my disinterest the first time around. Continue reading ‘Life is Good(ish).’
One of the most unsettling things for me about going to college and living on campus was my inability to have living animals in my life. I mean, while dead animals are tasty, I don’t understand the point of being at the top of the food chain if you don’t occasionally enjoy toying with the little buggers. College telling me that I was disallowed from having any permanent fixtures was highly frustrating, and I was relieved to get out into the “real world” and begin getting pets again.
My wife, however, had never owned more than a beta fish (which is not really a pet– more on this in a moment). Communication between the two of us as to the wants and needs of a pet has become an ongoing dialog. One which I feel the need to share with the vastness of the net. Here’s four things to look for in an actual pet (as opposed to all those fake ones):

Now after the sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary and Salome and that one dame with the sloppy cans went to the sepulcher with spices so that they might go and “anoint” Him. They arrived at the tomb, and they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?”
And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. He rolled and lit a cigarette while the women stared, amazed at what they had seen. And lo, he scowled and said to them, “What?”
Mary (Magdalene, not the other one) stepped forward and said “We have come to anoint our Lord with spices and oils. Who art thou and wherefore art thou here?” Continue reading ‘Night of the Living Lord: the Gospel According to Ted’
