Self-Congratulatory Salute to Ourselves

Just about a month ago, we began to espouse our beliefs on the world starting with musings on that Queen of Comedy, the Governor of Alaska.  Since then, we’ve discussed more politics, science, and a buttload of entertainment, all with the goal of sharing our unique (see: “arrogant”) world views with you, the far-more-humble reader.

While we haven’t found our footing or even all of our voice quite yet, I think we’re off to a strong start.  We’re offering original content on a regular basis, with only more to come on the horizon– including new writers, the launch of several original webcomics, and our continued attempts to give you something amusing to make it through your work week (or weekend).  Many thanks to those who have read us so far, especially the fine folks over at reddit who have consistently been the source of the majority of our site traffic– proving definitively (to us, at least) that redditors are far more willing to give new content a fair shake than diggers.

With new content being churned up on all side for our second and third months, I’ve looked back over our first at a few stories that just didn’t quite get the viewership that I’d hoped.  I do so with the intention of drumming up more love for the great writers who are willing to extend a helping towel to you.  The best of the under-read:

Chiefs, Patriots, Spleens, Lint, and Playing.. To Win… The Game” by BIG
BIG only has half another article on SbaT, but I have to say that his inaugural solo address is a laugh-filled romp through the football scene.  It’s a little long, and perhaps BIG steal needs some WordPress training, but the fact of the matter is that it’s smart, funny, and offers a unique perspective.  If I wish any of our authors would churn out more content, it’s BIG… and all that’s saying is I wish he’d write another article.  Maybe you can coax him by showing your appreciation for his take on the stupidity of the third string quarterback.

Night of the Living Lord: The Gospel According to Ted” by IgNobel
Consensus among the writers has been that this is the funniest and most original article we’ve seen in the forty-some written thus far.  IgNobel’s story covering Christ’s Zombie Resurrection makes enough Raimi-style jokes to be worth composing a whole gospel around.  Great stuff that needs a wider audience.

Why You Should Try Speed.” by protoevangel
Sadly, it’s not an expose on drugs, but it’s the next best thing– a damned good movie review.  Not only is the color commentary a hoot, but protoevangel is right in his defense of one of this year’s most unjustly maligned flicks– the Wachowski’s triumphant return to form: Speed Racer.

Building the Better Pet” by stridex
I know, I probably shouldn’t toot my own horn, but dammit, this article still tickles me.  An overview on what I think constitutes a real pet, with such gem observations as: “Something that you look at and water but cannot touch is a plant.”

Again, these articles are just some among the many written thus far, but they were ones that didn’t get the shot they deserved at being read in the never-ending internet newscycle.  And that brings me to my final point: if you like what you’ve seen so far, ADD OUR RSS FEED.  No better way to help a website thrive than having it “delivered” to your internet doorstep.

Thanks again for reading, and keep comin’ back for more, ’cause we aren’t throwin’ in the towel anytime soon.

If you comment, we will come.
