Ah, yes THURSDAY! The day AFTER the best day of the week, which means we can discuss all new COMICS! Five titles reviewed (with light spoilers) this week… let’s get to it!

I don’t particularly want to end up prosecuted, but I figure that half of 4chan will be coming with me so the remaining Anon will launch a great campaign to save us.
I have, at multiple times in my adult life, stored images of lewd drawings of minors on my computer. I’m certain that there’s somebody out there reading this who is thinking me some form of wicked deviant, and you may be right. But, as far as I’m concerned, I have done no major wrong. I’m not here to start an argument about age of consent or discuss the evils of the sexualization of culture; because I’m doubtful that pen on paper has many sexual rights. For my mental state, shooting pixels to a bloody pulp has never made me shoot anyone, so violating images of fourteen-year-old anime characters isn’t going to turn me into a rapist.

Another week, and more failures from my local comic store– I’m looking into ways to rectify this.
In the meanwhile, let’s roll (light spoilers-style) with what we’ve got:
This morning I realized that I had nothing to offer the world. Now that it is afternoon, I realize I still have nothing to offer the world, other than to offer them that my morning was without offering.
Today has been a day of ongoing comic-related revelation.
Comics are coming back to the mainstream, unlike we’ve seen since the 90’s boom of cover variant buyers (not readers) and Image’s big artist-focused break out. The thing is, if the medium is to continue and be a success enough that creators can make a living, there is a need for more readers, and not just to the world of graphic novels or trade paperbacks (issue collections), but also a renewed focus on the individual issue. While there have been pushes made for this, one of the fundamental problems I find is that these pushes are not being made to a broad enough audience.
For the time being, I’m going to attempt writing a regular column on the single issues of my pulls, a pull that I am veryproud of my maintenance of (although I do not police it as diligently as some). There will be light spoilers, but hopefully this running commentary will help people to get a look into the comic book industry written towards more of an outside point of view. I’m a culture snob when it comes to entertainment. I take a bizarre moral high ground in entertainment… this combination of refined “art” and perfected “pop” that is both smarter and hipper than you, while never being “too” smart or “too” hip, and all the while being a judgemental bitch whilst I espouse my beliefs.
As such, I view myself well above about 95% of what makes up the “horror” genre. If we aren’t discussing the first two “Alien” flicks, it may not end well for you. Just this past month, however, I’ve realized that I have some very glaring weaknesses. For example– cheesy vampire dramas. Blade, Angel, and so on. But I can trace the strong literary heritage of bloodsuckers, so I still have amazing taste, right?
