I’ve been a big Kevin Smith fan over the years.  He speaks a holy nerd lexicon that instantly connected with intelligent young males of my generation.  “Mallrats” remains one of my favorite flicks to throw on and just quote to the chagrin of those around me.  So when word came down that Smith was making a non-Askewverse comedy, I figured this was a good chance to see him get a mainstream win.

In my opinion, this didn’t so much happen.  Yes, I laughed.  But it was nothing worth some greater amount of attention.  The film was a “Judd Apatow: Lite”, and this comes from someone who still doesn’t understand what the whole Apatow buzz is about.  The movie isn’t bad, but it certainly isn’t up to snuff.  So, I’d like to play a little bit of Monday morning quarterback, and throw out five things that could have made ”Zack and Miri Make a Porno” funnier and smarter, with plenty of plot (not joke) SPOILERS.
